The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a two-year Post Graduate program approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The program is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills in Computer Applications and Software Development. It caters to students aspiring to build expertise in areas such as Software Engineering, Programming Languages, Database Management Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, And Network and Cyber Security. The curriculum is structured to align with current industry trends and technological advancements, equipping graduates to meet the evolving demands of the IT sector.

The Department of Computer Applications was established in the year 2024. The Department offers a two-year semester base Post Graduate Degree Program titled “Master of Computer Applications (MCA)”.
The courses offered by the MCA Program focuses on enriching the students for a global career by enriching the curriculum with the blend of theory and practical knowledge.
The department provides comprehensive training in a wide range of tools and programming languages, equipping students to excel in diverse domains such as Software Application Development, Full Stack Development, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Mobile Application Development, and emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Network & Cyber Security, Big Data Analytics etc.
The MCA department is committed to developing industry-ready professionals by integrating real-world project experience into the curriculum, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and nurturing a mindset of continuous learning, innovation, and adaptability to evolving technological trends.

PO1: Foundation Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, programming logic and coding fundamentals for solution architecture and problem solving.

PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, review, formulate and analyse problems for primarily focussing on customer requirements using critical thinking frameworks.

PO3: Development of Solutions: Design, develop and investigate problems with as an innovative approach for solutions incorporating ESG/SDG goals.

PO4: Modern Tool Usage: Select, adapt and apply modern computational tools such as development of algorithms with an understanding of the limitations including human biases.

PO6: Project Management and Finance: Use the principles of project management such as scheduling, work breakdown structure with the principles of Finance for profitable project management.

PO7: Ethics – Commit to professional ethics in managing software projects with financial aspects. Learn to use new technologies for cyber security and insulate customers from malware.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have passed BCA, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering, or an equivalent qualification
Alternatively, candidates with a B.Sc., B.Com., or B.A. degree, having studied Mathematics at the 10+2 level or during graduation, are eligible. Those from non-computer backgrounds may need to take additional bridge courses as the university prescribes
Applicants must have obtained at least 50% marks in the qualifying exam (45% for reserved category candidates)

For admissions through the PGCET and Roaster System of the Karnataka Government:

Candidates must take the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Admission under the government quota will be based on the rank secured in this exam

For admission under the Management Quota:

Candidates must have appeared for the PGCET or the Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) or any other approved entrance exam recognized by the Government of Karnataka or VTU
