The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the academic year 2010 with a sanctioned intake of 60. The Department has well equipped laboratory facilities and a team of qualified and dedicated faculty experienced in diversified fields of Civil Engineering. The faculty members of the department have demonstrated a deep sense of commitment, enthusiasm, achievement, motivation and innovation, to sustain the academic programme.

Profile

The department of civil Engineering was added to the Moodlakatte Instittue of Technology in the year 2010. In the year 2010, the intake of students was just 10. Because of the good infrastructure provided by the institution and the academic records produced by the several branches in this family, the strength of students has considerably increased to (60) and it helped to widen the faculties and facilities of civil Department. The students of our department are disciplined, punctual and dedicative and this encouraged the faculties to reproduce their knowledge and thoughts easily to their students. Due to well performance of students the academic record is considerably good. Well talented faculties are appointed and by their extra-ordinary teaching, the students get inspirations and are well placed in the society.

A strong foundation is laid through courses on Concrete and Steel Structures, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Irrigation Engineering and Computer Application. The theoretical courses are supplemented by imparting  practical experience through well-equipped laboratories

Well equipped laboratories are provided to improve student’s practical knowledge. In 2015 six of the final year students were placed in M’ in the campus interview held at MITK. Our department have well trained and enthusiastic sports persons, who had participated in sports meet conducted by MITK and VTU and district level sports meet . In Intra college sports meet our department students were champions along with Mechnaical Engineering department in the year 2015.Our department students actively participate in the cultural programmes conducted within the campus as well as by other institutuions.Ms.Gayathri RV had been the champion of Mridula Cultural Fest of MITK in the year 2013.

The Department currently offers B.E. Degree in Civil Enigneering. . Department will also be engaged in organizing co-curricular activities like seminars, expert talk, aptitude test, quiz, field visits, career counseling etc. in order to provide & develop inter personal skills of the students.

Activities

Civil Engineering Department Forum “FORCE”

Civil Engineering Association “FORCE” was inaugurated on 18th October 2012. Raju Mogaveera-Tahsildar .Byndooru graced the function as Chief Guest. To mark this occasion forum donated a valuable fund to Manasa Jyothi trust for mentally challenged Children.

Sir M.Vishweswaraya’s Bust was installed in the college premises as part of the Engineers day on Sept 28th 2013 by the association .Sri Vinay Kumar Sorake Honrable Minster for Urban Development unveiled the Bust and inaugurated the Engineer’s day in a colourful function held at MIT Campus. The first news letter of the department “ADVIKA” was released on this day.

Two days workshop on Total Station was conducted in the year 2014 by the Association. Several technical talks were conducted by the resource persons for the benefit of students.

Engineers Day

Engineers day was celebrated by Department of Civil Engineering on 15th and 16th of September 2017.

Chairman Sri. Siddarth Shetty , Principal Dr. Kataiah along with HOD, Staff and students of Civil Department garlanded the Sir M.V’s bust on 15th Sept 2017. Dr.Udaykumar –HOD , Civil Department, NMAMIT- Nitte was the chief guest for Engineer’s day. He gave a technical talk on trending topic “ Water Conservation in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Region” . He briefed about the importance of conserving the water in general and explained in detail the technical methods of conserving water in Civil engineering prospective. Students were very keen to ask the doubts and the Professor clarified each and every doubt raised by the students. Totally it was very interactive session. HOD Shashikala briefed about the achievements of Sir MV and urged the students to follow the footsteps of Sir.M.Vishveshwaraiah. Mr.Sushit Shetty welcomed the gathering where as Ms.Soundarya proposed Vote of thanks. Ms.Amrutha and Ms.Chaya of Civil Department compeered the programme.

Technical Talk

Technical talk was given on 27th September 2017 on “How to select the research Project and methodology of Project write up” by resource person Prof. Raghavendra Holla. He explained the importance of selection of topics and the literature survey to be done. He also explained how to get sponsorship KSCST-SPP and to write the reports. Students tend to know about the different project ideas and the methodology and students clarified their doubts in the interaction session.

Concrete Technology for Good Construction

A one day technical seminar was conducted for the engineers of KRIDL and Nirmithi Kendra and faculty of Civil Department by the Department of Civil Engineering MIT,Kundapura in association with Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd and Nirmithi Kendra, Udupi on 21st September at Pacific Hall of Hotel Ocean Pearl, Udupi.

The resource person Prof. M. S. Shetty a renowned person in Concrete Technology gave a talk on “Good Construction Practices in Concrete”. 88 year old young Professor M. S. Shetty in his energetic speech emphasized on use of M-sand as a replacement for Natural sand and gave a very good suggestions for the durability of concrete. The talk was well appreciated by the participants .

Prof. Shetty was felicitated on this occasion as he is elected for “Life time achievement award”, a national award for the year 2017, by Indian Concrete Institute.

Forum Inauguration

Forum Inauguration of Civil Department was held on 27th September 2017. “FORCE-2017” Futuristic Organisation of Revolutionary Civil Engineers was inaugurated by the Chief Guests: Prof. Ragavendra Holla and Prof.Udaykumar of MIT-Manipal and Principal of MITK Dr. Kataiah.

Office bearers of “Force” are as follows- President: Uday Naik :VII sem Vice Pesdient: Ms.Chaya: V sem Secretary: Mr.Srujan:VII Sem Treasurer: Mr.Renvick: VII Sem HOD, Faculty of Civil Department as well as HODs of various departments were present on the occasion. HOD distributed Cash Prize award for the academic as well as Sports and Cultural activities toppers.

Mr.Renvick of final year compered the programme where as Ms.Amrutha Prabhu welcomed the gathering and Ms.Rashmi proposed Vote of thanks.
